The triquetra or trinity knot is most widely known from
its use in Irish monastic art (illuminated manuscripts) as ornamentation
in complex compositions, like those found in The Book of Kells, but the
triquetra has also been found on runestones in Northern Europe and on
early Germanic coins, revealing their close link with Celtic peoples.
