At its height, the Celtic world stretched from the British Isles to the
Carpathian Mountains and Asia Minor. Although their physical presence
began to dwindle in the first century BC, they had an undeniably strong
influence in the formation of Europe. In addition to the writings of
outside sources, archaeological excavations have helped modern day
scholars piece together their migration, social and political structure
and customs. Many of our customs today can be traced back to their Celtic
roots, as can family and place names.
