Lap Dulcimers are probably based on members of the Zither
family from Northern Europe. While these instruments are close, they are
quite definitely American based from the Appalachian area. One of the
easiest instruments to play, they may be truly said to be 'intuitive'. If
you can hum a tune, you can play it on the lap dulcimer.
